Experience
Teaching and tutoring have been a part of my life for a decade. I'm well-versed at working with the diverse needs of every student - regardless of culture, background, or disability. Prior to tutoring, I spent 10 years working at the USDA as a biologist. I've also been employed as a lab assistant and librarian's assistant. My real-world experience coupled with my proficiency in literacy, science, teaching, and language skills make me a flexible, dynamic, and adept instructor. I help students tackle challenges by evaluating their strong qualities as well as their weak qualities. This technique allows me to design a customized lesson plan for each student. I'm also very responsive, motivating, and encouraging and offer engaging ways to create a fun learning environment. I like to try different tools in my teaching, including using textbooks, experiments, demos, and interactive websites. On a personal note, I'm a mother of a seven-year-old daughter and two teenage boys, which has given me firsthand knowledge in understanding the stages of development. I've also learned to be very patient. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy dancing, singing, spending time with my family, participating in church activities, writing poetry, and composing songs. It's also my goal to organize an interfaith youth group designed to provide positive socializing opportunities for homebound students.
